American pop singer and actress Lady Gaga is teasing her role in the Todd Phillips movie “Joker: Folie à Deux” with Joaquin Phoenix, who reprises his role as Arthur Fleck/Joker. Gaga will play Harley Quinn.
In a new interview with Access Hollywood to promote the Gaga Chomatica Ball film, the 38-year-old star teased how her version of the comic book character is different.
“You know my version of Harley is mine, and it’s very authentic to this movie and these characters,” she said. “I’ve never done anything like I’ve done in this movie before, so it’s all going to be completely brand new and really fun.”
Gaga stars opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the Joker sequel directed by Todd Phillips. The musical by DC Studios is set to premiere in theaters on October 4.
"Joker: Folie à Deux" also stars Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, and Zazie Beetz. The film is part of DC Elseworlds and is not part of the universe that Peter Safran and James Gunn have been building since taking the helm of DC Studios.
Gaga is taking on the role of Harley Quinn, which Margot Robbie portrayed in movies like "Suicide Squad" (2016), "Birds of Prey" (2020), and "The Suicide Squad" (2021).
In a 2022 interview with MTV News, Robbie expressed her excitement over the new iteration of the character after learning Gaga was cast in the role.
“It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way like Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor,” she continued, “It’s such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing. I think she’ll do something incredible with it.”
