American musician and actor Kevin Jonas revealed Tuesday on Instagram he recently had a cancerous mole removed from his face, and encouraged fans to maintain their skin health.
“So today,” Jonas explained in a video. “I am getting a basal cell carcinoma removed from my head.”
Per the Mayo Clinic, Basal Cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that “occurs most often on areas of the skin that are exposed to the sun, such as your head and neck.”
Jonas’ operation occurred on his forehead. “Yes, that is a actual little skin cancer guy that just started to grow,” he added. “And now, I have to get surgery to remove it. So, here we go.”
When the procedure was finished, he said, “Now, it’s time to heal and home.”
“Make sure to get those moles checked, people,” he continued. He also captioned the video, “Friendly reminder to get your moles checked.”

The The Skin Cancer Foundation reposted the video, and thanked Jonas for raising awareness.
“Early detection can be lifesaving,” they wrote. “Wishing you the best on your BCC surgery and recovery.”
