Colombian singer and songwriter Carolina Giraldo Navarro, known professionally as Karol G, has opened up about the making of her new single "Cairo".
The single was released on Sunday, November 13, and was filmed in Egypt's most famous archaeological sites, including the pyramids, the Sultan Hassan Mosque, and the Citadel.
"Cairo" marks the third collaboration between Karol G and director Pedro Artola. They previously worked together on "Provenza" and "Gatúbela".
The song was released in coincidence with the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), which is taking place from 6-18 November in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
It achieved great success by gaining 10.6 million views on YouTube and topping the list of most-watched videos on the platform.
The Colombian singer expressed on Instagram her great happiness making the song, saying: "Egypt is one of the top 5 places in the world that I dreamed of visiting,".
"I had the ambition to see the country, to wander its streets and landmarks such as the pyramids and the Sphinx, as well as to make a music video, something that was always in my heart and mind," she added.
"The moment I arrived at the place was overwhelming as I saw that after a difficulty, my dream had been achieved and had become a reality. I will regard it as one of the best projects of my life."
Karol G, born on February 14, 1991, in Medellín, launched her singing career as a teenager, appearing on the Colombian spinoff of "The X Factor".
She moved to New York City in 2014 to learn more about the music industry.
The singer made her breakthrough after her 2017 collaboration “Ahora Me Llama,” with Puerto Rican rapper and singer Bad Bunny.
