Karnak Temple Witnesses Solar Alignment Phenomenon

On Monday, the Karnak Temple witnessed the solar alignment phenomenon on the main holy shrine of the temple.

This phenomenon occurs annually on 21st December marking the start of the winter solstice.

On his side, Dr. Mostafa El Sagher, the General Manager of Luxor Antiquities, indicated that this event symbolized the creativity of the ancient Egyptians in various arts such as astronomy and architecture.

The phenomenon begins with the sun infiltrating through the eastern gate of the temple, casting its rays on the main axis of the temple, and entering the Holy of Holies, which was the location of the statue of the deity Amun.

Moreover, the event witnessed the presence of a huge number of Egyptian and foreign visitors, alongside Mr. Mostafa Alham, the governor of Luxor.

Also, a number of performances such as folk dances, music performances, and children's performances were organized on the sidelines of the event.
