Idris Elba shares first behind-the-scenes photos from ‘Luther’ movie

The third outing in the franchise “El Feel El Azraq” (The Blue Elephant) is officially on its way.

Franchise star Karim Abdel Aziz celebrated production on his third film kicking off with a first behind-the-scenes photo. 

On Instagram, the actor shared a picture of himself reuniting with fellow co-star Nelly Karim.

The long-gestating threequel also brings together the same cast and crew of the first film, including Writer and novelist Ahmed Mourad, director Marwan Hamed as well as introduces new face Dina El Sherbiny.

"The Blue Elephant" is one of the highest-grossing Egyptian films in the last 10 years. It grossed more than EGP 35 million, and 1.2 million tickets were sold during the Eid Al Adha season in 2014, achieving wide acclaim.

It received a rating of 8.6 on IMDb with more than 21,000 votes by users, making it the highest-rated Arabic film on IMDb. The film is still one of the most-watched films on TV and VOID platforms.

Hamed adapted writer Mourad’s best-selling book of the same title, which was released in 2012. The novel was shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) in 2014.

“The Blue Elephant” follows Dr. Yehia Rashid, a psychiatrist, is tired of his monotonous life and begins working at a psychiatric hospital. He meets an old friend who has been accused of killing his wife and delves into his psyche to understand his actions.

In 2019, it spawned a sequel centered around a new inmate in the psychiatric hospital turning Dr. Yehia's life upside down when he foretells the death of his entire family.

Little is known about the plot beyond that it picks up where the sequel left off, with Doctor Yehia possessed by a demon.

Principal photography on "The Blue Elephant 3" is underway, with a theatrical release set for summer 2027.
