Sony’s 3000 Pictures has acquired rights to Katy Hays’ forthcoming novel "Home Economics," with Oscar winner Julia Roberts attached to star.
Roberts also produces along with Lisa Roberts Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill through their Red Om Films label alongside Marc Platt, who will produce through his Marc Platt Productions.
Hays is set to adapt her novel and executive produce.
Book synopsis and film plot are under wraps."Home Economics" sold in a competitive publishing auction, landing at Pamela Dorman Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House’s Viking, which will publish it in 2027.
It has also been sold in 11 international territories.
Jake Bauman and the Sony Literary team were instrumental in bringing the project to Sony’s 3000 Pictures. Elizabeth Gabler and Aislinn Dunster will oversee for 3000.
Roberts was most recently seen in the Amazon MGM Studios pic "After the Hunt" and is next up in "Panic Carefully" for Warner Bros.
Hays is the New York Times bestselling author with her debut novel "The Cloister". She also wrote "Saltwater," currently on the NYT bestseller list.
