The prosecutor of Jordan's Criminal Court decided on Wednesday to refer Zarqa brutal crime case to the State Security Court (SSC), according to Petra's news agency.

A judicial source revealed that the defendants are charged with several crimes, foremost of which, "committing an act that endangers the safety and security of society, casting terror among people and terrifying them" in accordance with the provisions of Articles 2 and 7 of the Prevention of Terrorism Law No. 55 of 2006 and its amendments,

It is worth mentioning that, on Tuesday, the imprisoned father of a 16-year-old boy, who was attacked by a group of men in a brutal incident known in media as “Zarqa crime”, was allowed to visit his son.

The boy is recovering from the assault that drew public outrage nationwide.

The visit was permitted by the director of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) “in light of the health and humanitarian conditions of the boy and his family”, the PSD spokesperson said.

Activists in Jordan circulated on social media a few days ago horrific videos, showing a 16-year-old boy with his hands cut and eyes bleeding against the background of “revenge” in the city of Zarqa.

The “Zarqa Crime” hashtag appeared on the Google search engine among the most searched topics besides the social networking site, while the Jordanian monarch, King Abdullah II, intervened, according to the official Kingdom TV.

“The King followed up on the details of the accurate security operation carried out by the Public Security Directorate – Police Command that led to the arrest of people who committed the crime,” The TV report added.

The King emphasized “the necessity to take harsh legal measures against criminals who commit crimes that terrify society,” directing those concerned to provide the necessary treatment for the boy.
