Jordan PM: We Will Deal Firmly with Zarqa Crime Perpetrators

Jordanian Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh visited, on Wednesday evening, the boy who was victim of a heinous crime in the eastern city of Zarqa, at the King Hussein Medical Centre (KHMC), where he is receiving medical treatment.

Khasawneh checked on the boy's health condition, and was briefed on the medical care provided to him by the supervising doctors, wishing him a speedy recovery.

He also told the boy's family that this heinous crime had shocked the entire Jordanian society, and reassured them that this crime and its perpetrators will be dealt with firmly and within the framework of the rule of law.

On his part, Zarqa's Public Prosecutor, Ayman Masalha, banned the publication of information regarding the Zarqa crime on Wednesday.

The decision was made aiming to preserve the confidentiality of the investigation, the rights of inpiduals and public order.

It is worth mentioning that, Activists in Jordan circulated on social media on Tuesday horrific videos, showing a 16-year-old boy with his hands cut and eyes bleeding against the background of “revenge” in the city of Zarqa.

The “Zarqa Crime” hashtag appeared on the Google search engine among the most searched topics besides the social networking site, while the Jordanian monarch, King Abdullah II, intervened, according to the official Kingdom TV.

“The King followed up on the details of the accurate security operation carried out by the Public Security Directorate – Police Command that led to the arrest of people who committed the crime,” The TV report added.

The king emphasized “the necessity to take harsh legal measures against criminals who commit crimes that terrify society,” directing those concerned to provide the necessary treatment for the boy.
