Briarcliff Entertainment has set a March 21, 2025 release for “Magazine Dreams,” a tense sports drama starring Jonathan Majors.

Searchlight Pictures had initially landed the movie at 2023’s Sundance Film Festival but parted ways earlier this year after Majors was convicted of domestic assault and harassment of his ex-partner.

The Elijah Bynum-scripted and -directed drama, about an aspiring bodybuilder named Killian Maddox who abuses steroids in his quest to become a sports icon, was expected to put the actor in the Best Actor race and a major star trajectory.

Beyond the high price paid by Majors — who transformed his body by eating 6100 calories daily and training six days a week, and wound up exiting the Avengers films and had just come off a terrific performance opposite Michael B. Jordan in Creed III – a lot of people worked hard on "Magazine Dreams". That included Bynum, who was poised to break out on the film. Now, he still might, as could Majors’ co-stars Haley Bennett, Taylour Paige, and four-time Mr. Universe Mike O’Hearn.

Zeus Network is Briarcliff’s marketing partner for Magazine Dreams. The film is produced by Jennifer Fox, Dan Gilroy, Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman. Executive producers include Majors for his Tall Street Productions and Luke Rodgers and Andrew Blau for the Los Angeles Media Fund. Also executive producing are Lemuel Plummer, LJ Plummer and Jason Tolbert.

Majors, the Emmy-winning actor of “Lovecraft Country” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” was fired from Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe in the wake of the guilty verdict.

The 34-year-old was expected to appear in upcoming installments in the comic book franchise, including 2026’s “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” which has been renamed to “Doomsday.” Prior to the trial, Majors was dropped by his manager, Entertainment 360, and his publicity firm, the Lede Company.

Majors has denied the assault allegations and maintained a desire to resume his career in Hollywood. Earlier this year, he was cast in the revenge thriller “Merciless,” which will be directed by Denis Villeneuve’s brother Martin Villeneuve.
