Rumors have been floating over a year around the 2019 movie "Joker" would receive a sequel.

Todd Phillips has officially confirmed the news. The writer and director shared Tuesday on Instagram that not only confirms a second movie is on the way.

The post included two photos, one of the cover of the script, which is a bold red color fitting for the movie's central character. It showed that Phillips and Scott Silver returned to pen the screenplay.

The screenplay is titled, "Joker: Folie à deux", the French reference being a medical term pertaining to a mental disorder that affects two or more people.

One character known to have ties to the Joker is Harley Quinn. Thus, it's a fair guess that Phillips may introduce Harley to his movies.

Margot Robbie is the most recent actress to portray Harley in live-action movies. She was paired with Jared Leto's Joker in 2016's "Suicide Squad", it's likely that if Harley were to be introduced in "Joker 2", a different actress would step into the role.

The second photo is a black and white shot of the Joker himself, Joaquin Phoenix, with the open script in hand while smoking and wearing a pair of glasses.

The first Joker was the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time with $1.07 billion worldwide and earned 11 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and a second Oscar win for Hildur Guðnadóttir’s original score.

It also starred Brett Cullen as Batman’s dad Thomas Wayne, Robert De Niro as talk show host, Murray Franklin, Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond, Arthur’s love interest, as well as Marc Maron, Bill Camp, and Shea Whigham.

The movie's story was completely original and didn't follow any previously published comic books that feature the character.
