The fourth installment of the Keanu Reeves-led John Wick franchise catapulted into theaters earlier this year.

While the fate of the titular antihero has been speculated about a lot, the journey definitely isn't over yet. During Lionsgate's Q4 2023 earnings call, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Joe Drake confirmed that a fifth entry remains in early development.

"We're now moving across that franchise, not just in the AAA video game space, but looking at what the regular cadence of spin-offs, television really growing that universe so that there is a steady cadence of a franchise that there's clear appetite by the audience," Drake said.

"What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spinoff that comes out next year. We're in development on three others, including [John Wick 5] and including television series, The Continental, will be airing soon. And so, we're building out the world and when that five movie comes, will be organic -- will be organically grown out of how we're starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick."

One of the next extensions of the franchise will be the female-centric film "Ballerina" and the prequel mini-series "The Continental".

"Ballerina" stars Ana de Armas as Rooney, a dancer-turned-assassin for the ruthless Ruska Roma crime family who seeks revenge against those who murdered her family.

Reeves, the late Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston, and Ian McShane are all expected to make cameos in the movie. "Ballerina" is slated for a 2024 spring/summer release.

Based on the lore established around Anjelica Houston's The Director in the third John Wick movie.

The project is scripted by Shay Hatten and directed by Len Wiseman. It is produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski. Brady Fujikawa and Chelsea Kujawa are overseeing the project for Lionsgate.

Set in 1970s New York City, "The Continental" will focus on a younger version of McShane’s Winston, the owner of the famous hotel for assassins, and how it came to be that he and his team of confederates found their way into the hotel.

The spin-off is set for a September release on Peacock.
