Jessie J has always worn her heart on her sleeve, whether when belting out in an arena or updating fans on her battle with breast cancer, however, her latest update was something else entirely.

In a tear-streaked Instagram Story that quickly went viral, the “Price Tag” singer reflected that her past year has been one of the toughest years of her life.

For the first time in months, the performer, 37, paused the whirlwind of medical appointments, music plans, and parenting to get real about her feelings.

In her lengthy post, she didn’t sugarcoat it: she said 2025 was “heavy and hard in many ways,” admitting that she’s been crying a lot and feeling really low at times.

The raw unfiltered message left fans heartbreaking as they didn’t expect something this honest from a superstar who’s always been known for strength and warmth.

Nonetheless, that’s exactly why people connected so deeply with her update. She didn’t just post a smiling selfie and a gratitude list, she let them in to the messy parts; the late nights of emotion, the reflections that bubble up around the holidays when life doesn’t feel “perfect.”

Jessie pointed out something that hits home for many: behind the glamorous photos and music videos, life has layers of grief, heartbreak, joy, gratitude and confusion all tangled together, a mix that fans resonated so strongly with.

To understand why this update resonated so strongly, you have to rewind to June 2025, when Jessie announced her early-stage breast cancer diagnosis to fans.

Jessie didn’t hide anything in her video announcement, she explained she’d found the lump before her new single "No Secrets" dropped and described it as “a very dramatic way to get a boob job” with the same dry humor she’s known for.

Soon after, she underwent a mastectomy, documenting the emotional hospital moments and recovery in a series of posts that alternated between gut-wrenching honesty and genuine gratitude for her support team.

In one heartbreaking but uplifting post from June, she even recorded her toddler son repeating “Mommy’s gonna be okay,” a moment that fans said made them cry right along with her.

The Ups, the Downs, and the Emotional Current

Jessie’s battle hasn’t been linear, not even close. After her surgery, she tested clear of any cancer spread, which was a moment of relief shared with joy and a flood of “happy tears.”

However, the physical recovery has had setbacks too, including post-surgery complications and the toll that healing has taken on her body and emotions.

In her year-end message, the singer said she’s had to let out feelings she’d held in for months, and that’s something fans from every walk of life could relate to.

She reminded everyone that they are not “superhuman or meant to be happy all the time.”

The musician also encouraged people not to suppress what they feel, especially during times that are traditionally festive but also emotionally heavy.

That very human sentiment, that it’s okay not to be okay, is what made her message go viral and flood social media.

Where She Is Now — And What’s Next

Jessie is currently resting, spending time with her partner Chanan Safir Colman and their son, focusing on recovery before undergoing her second cancer-related surgery, which she’s approaching with courage and honesty.

Even through these challenges, she has repeatedly spoken about living in the moment, making room for emotions, even the soft, uncomfortable ones, and celebrating small victories along the way.

That’s part of what makes the update so impactful: it’s not just about resilience, it’s about being present with life’s richness, even when it hurts.

There's Always a Silver Lining

Jessie was one of many artists to perform on BBC Two’s Jools Holland's Annual Hootenanny 2025 on New Year's Eve.

Ahead of her cover of Frank Sinatra’s "My Way," she spoke out about her year and urged people “not to let their worst days define life,".

"I think this has been tough for a lot of people," she said. "It's been the year of the snake [in Chinese zodiac], but we've done a lot of shedding and letting go."

“And I think the world needed to kind of be exposed a little bit, hopefully for 2026 to be a year of coming together and more empathy, acting on our instincts, more in the right way," Jessie added.

The "Price Tag" hitmaker shared she got a new big bosom.

"We're looking at the positive silver lining," she noted. "My nipples are looking in different directions, but we look at the positives. For context, I did have breast cancer. I know I've been talking about it a lot, but I think it's important that we do talk about it — good things, bad things. But I will say this, don't define your life on your worst days,".

Looking on the positive side, Jessie added that she is "so blessed that all my blessings outweigh anything that's been challenging this year."

"Honestly, I wouldn't have enjoyed this release ... I haven't released an album in eight years, and I don't think I would have enjoyed it like I have," she added, referring to her sixth studio album, "Don't Tease Me with a Good Time," which was released in November 2025.
