Jessica Chastain and Adam Driver are set to star in the series “The Dealer” at Apple TV+.
The project has been given a straight-to-series order in a competitive situation.
It is described as “a biting exploration of power, class, and culture set inside the glittering world of the high-end art market, told through the eyes of an aspiring super gallerist, played by Chastain, and the tangled relationship with her most gifted and unnerving artist, played by Driver.”
Lucas Hnath is the writer behind the series and serves as executive producer.
Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer will executive produce for Media Res, while Chastain and Kelly Carmichael will executive produce for Freckle Films.
Driver and Alan Poul also executive produce along with Sam Gold and Sarah Lunnie. Arianna Anderson will serve as co-executive producer. Gold is also directing.
The series is produced by Media Res, which also produces the Apple shows “The Morning Show,” “Pachinko,” and “Extrapolations.”
This marks just the second regular television role of Driver’s career. He previously broke out with his role in the critically-acclaimed HBO series “Girls,” in which he starred throughout the show’s six season run.
Driver is primarily known for his film roles, having earned two Oscar nominations to date — one for “Marriage Story” and another for “BlacKkKlansman.”
He is also known for his role as Kylo Ren in the new “Star Wars” trilogy and has starred in other films like “Megalopolis,” “House of Gucci,” “The Last Duel,” “Silence,” and “The Report.”
“The Dealer” also marks Chastain’s second series with Apple. She is also leading the upcoming limited series “The Savant,” which was filmed in 2024 and is currently awaiting a release date.
Chastain also starred in the limited series “George and Tammy” opposite Michael Shannon, in which they played George Jones and Tammy Wynette. She won the Academy Award for best actress for her work in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” in 2022.
She has been nominated two other times — for “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Help.” Her other notable film roles include starring in “The Good Nurse,” “Armageddon Time,” “Molly’s Game,” “Interstellar,” and “A Most Violent Year.”
