Jenna Ortega has expressed interest in directing in the future after executive producing the global hit Netflix show “Wednesday” Season 2 for the first time.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone AU/NZ, Ortega said it was a “natural progression” to take on the executive producer role after the success of the first season.

“I naturally just started to become more involved as the months went on [filming the first season] in Romania and, you know, there was a lot of creative collaboration happening,” she said. “So, the second time, it just was kind of further elaborating on that. If anything, I just kind of got to be in on the less creative stuff and a lot more of the technical stuff which is still really exciting to me and new for me. It was like a new door had opened up that I didn’t know was there so it was great being able to learn a lot of other things, but it wasn’t I didn’t feel strained.”

When asked if, after working with iconic director Tim Burton on “Wednesday”, she would like to direct in the future, she responded: “Yes. Yes, I would.”

Ortega and Burton were in Sydney earlier this month to promote the new season of “Wednesday”, which racked up 50 million views in five days of its premiere.

Reflecting on the series’ success, Burton recalled meeting Ortega for the first time and knew she was the right fit for the iconic “Addams Family” character.

“I mean, this was during COVID, so I only met Jenna when we were casting by Zoom,” Burton explained.

“In fact, I didn’t actually see her until we started shooting. But it was amazing [and] interesting, even by Zoom, she was obviously the right person and was completely Wednesday. So, even before I met her in person, I felt really amazed and comfortable that she was Wednesday.”

Part 2 of "Wednesday" season 2 premieres on Netflix on September 3rd.
