Japanese Film Fest in Egypt to Kick off on Monday

The new edition of the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) will take place between February 14 and 27 virtually, the festival's organizing board announced in an official statement.

19 Japanese films with Arabic subtitles will be screened online for free, and they include not only new releases but classic features as well.

Every 48 hours, a new film will be available on the festival's platform, and the audience can watch the films any time until 10 am in Cairo time.

"It is a Summer Film," "Ito," and "Aristocrats" are considered the latest released participants as they are 2021 productions.

Only one classic film was featured in the line of the festival which is "Rashomon" and it was produced in 1950.

In the same context, "Patema Inverted" and "Time of Eve the Movie" are the only animation features added to the lineup of this edition.

Last year, JFF in Cairo presented the largest number of Japanese films available to Egyptian audiences all over the country.

The ten-day festival will showcase 25 films ranging from features, to documentaries, to modern-production animation films released between 2014 and 2020, as well as the old feature film “The Flavor of Green Tea over Rice” produced in 1952, have been curated specially for the festival.

All films were produced between 2007, and 2020, except one feature which dated back to 1952 which is “The Flavor of Green Tea over Rice.”

Organized by the Japan Foundation in Cairo, the festival’s films will be available for 24 hours on the festival’s platform, also Arabic subtitles will be available as well for all films except “Tokyo Marble Chocolate.”

The audience in Egypt can watch “Tokyo Marble Chocolate” in English subtitles through the festival’s platform.
