The film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling romance novel “It Ends With Us” will begin streaming on Netflix on December 9.
The movie, starring Blake Lively and directed by Justin Baldoni, had its theatrical release on August 9 and went on to exceed industry expectations and gross over $350 million worldwide on a $25 million budget, becoming one of the year’s biggest commercial hits.
“It Ends With Us” follows small-town girl Lily Bloom (Lively), who moves to Boston to start her own business. Though coming from a complicated past, Bloom has always known the life she wants. While living in Boston, she meets neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni) and believes she may very well have found her soul mate. Soon, however, questions arise about their relationship, and to complicate matters her high school love interest, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), comes back into the picture, putting her relationship with Ryle in jeopardy.
Jenny Slate and Hasan Minhaj also star in the movie.The adaptation of the popular romance novel’s press tour did amass online controversy with an apparent feud between Lively and Baldoni leaving doubt about whether the two will ever work together again. It also raised fans' concern that the film’s promotional materials glorified domestic violence.
It remains unclear if there will be a film adaptation of “It Starts With Us,” Hoover’s 2022 follow-up to her original best-selling novel.
Baldoni directed the movie from a screenplay by Christy Hall based on Hoover’s book. Alex Saks, Jamey Heath, and Hall are producers. Executive producers are Lively, Hoover, Steve Sarowitz, Andrew Calof, and Baldoni.
