The General Authority of Antiquities and Heritage in Iraq announced, Friday, the unearthing of 756 artifacts in Al Basra.
The authority highlighted in the statement that the discovered collection included pottery, parts of copper, ivory, stone, and silver. In addition, a number of silver coins that date back to the Islamic period.
Some of the coins date to the Rashidun Islamic period which witnessed the earliest stage of Arabization as they had photos of Sasanians but with Arabic sentences. In addition, others date back to Umayyad and Abbasid Caliphates.
Currently, Iraq has six sites on Properties inscribed on the World Heritage List: Ashur (Qal'at Sherqat), Babylon, Erbil Citadel, Hatra, Samarra Archaeological City, and The Ahwar of Southern Iraq.
