Iran’s Revolutionary Guard explained today, that it shot down a U.S. RQ-4 Global Hawk drone over its territory in the country's southern coastal province of Hormozgan, amid increased hostility between Washington and Tehran.
On other hand, Bill Urban, the US Central Command spokesman, reported in a press statement that no US aircraft were operating in Iranian airspace, according to Fox News.
The latest developments follow apparent attacks days ago on two oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington has blamed Iran for. Tehran has denied being involved in the attacks.
Increased hostility between Washington and Tehran
Noteworthy, the Trump administration reported that it would send 1,000 additional troops and more military resources to the Middle East in response to what Washington called hostile behavior by Iranian forces that threaten United States personnel and interests across the region.
Meanwhile, world powers rushed to call for calm, where China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has warned the United States against opening a “Pandora’s box” in the Middle East. He called on both countries to avoid escalating the situation.
In Moscow, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov called upon the United States to drop “provocative plans to deploy more troops to the Middle East and to cease actions that looked like a conscious attempt to provoke war with Iran”.
