Egypt is accelerating the modernization of its maritime transport sector through a nationwide port development program aimed at strengthening the country's position as a regional logistics and trade hub, according to an infographic released by the Ministry of Transport, the Maritime Transport and Logistics Sector, and the Cabinet.

The infographic shows that Egypt has 19 commercial seaports along the Mediterranean and Red Seas, with 14 ports upgraded or currently under development as part of a broader expansion strategy. The program includes 80 port development projects backed by EGP 200 billion in investments, increasing the total quay length to 73 kilometers, including 35 kilometers of newly constructed quays.

The infographic also highlights plans to double Egypt's annual cargo handling capacity from 185 million tons to 370 million tons, supported by 15 kilometers of new breakwaters and an integrated logistics network linking ports to the country's high-speed electric rail system, highways, dry ports and logistics zones. With more than 3,000 kilometers of coastline along two major seas and a strategic location on one of the world's busiest shipping routes, officials say the expansion is expected to boost exports, attract foreign investment, create thousands of jobs and reinforce Egypt's role as a leading maritime and logistics gateway connecting Africa, Asia and Europe.
