In Pics: Ministers, Artists Celebrate Hawass’ Book "The Guardian"

Nahdet Misr Publishing House organized a major celebration to discuss Dr. Zahi Hawass’ latest book, entitled “The Guardian.. Zahi Hawass’ Days”.

A number of ministers, and public figures, including Dr. Mostafa el Feki, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Amr Moussa, former Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Zaki Badr, former Minister of Education, and Osama Heikal, former Minister of Information, attended the celebration.

Mohamed Orabi, former Foreign Minister, Dr. Hani Helal, former Minister of Higher Education, Mamdouh El-Damaty, former Minister of Antiquities, and Mohamed Abdel Latif, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Archeology at Mansoura University, and former Assistant Minister of Antiquities also were among the attendees.

US Ambassador to Cairo Jonathan Cohen, Osama bin Ahmed Naqli, Saudi ambassador to Cairo, Dr. Mamdouh Othman, Director General of the Islamic Museum in Cairo, Dr. Walaa El-Din Badawy, Director General of the Manial Palace Museum, and Dr. Issa Zeidan, Executive Director General of Restoration and Transfer of Antiquities at the Grand Museum also attended that celebration.

The celebration also included artists such as actor Sameh Al-Saraiti, actress Somaya El Khashab, actress Elham Shahin, TV anchor Jamal Al-Shaer, and writer Mohamed Salmawy.

On his part, El Feki affirmed that “The Guardian” is a valuable book that deserves to be acquired.

He said: “When I learned that Dr. Zahi Hawass would write his biography, I said now we will discover the essence of Zahi and its secrets. We will also get to know the history of Egypt through the words of one of its most sincere sons who had the privilege of digging and excavating its hidden heritage underground.”

The book has 16 chapters in which Hawass narrates his autobiography; from childhood till the last honor he received from the Emperor of Japan.
