Large crowds of visitors streamed into the Egypt International Exhibition Centre in New Cairo on Thursday as the 57th Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF) opened to the public, reaffirming its status as the Arab world’s largest and most prominent cultural event.

Visitors of all ages filled the exhibition halls from early hours, browsing book displays and participating in cultural activities amid organized security measures aimed at ensuring smooth entry and crowd control.

The fair, which runs until February 3, was officially inaugurated earlier this week by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, in the presence of senior officials, diplomats, and representatives of the publishing industry.

Organizers say this year’s edition is the largest in the fair’s history, with the participation of more than 1,400 publishing houses from over 80 countries, offering a wide range of titles across literature, politics, history, children’s books, and academic publications.

Alongside book exhibitions, the fair hosts hundreds of cultural events, including panel discussions, literary seminars, book-signing sessions, and artistic performances, aimed at promoting reading and encouraging dialogue between writers and readers.

Special programming this year highlights major national milestones and celebrates leading figures in Egyptian literature, while international participation underscores the fair’s growing global reach.

The CIBF, first launched in 1969, continues to serve as a key platform for cultural exchange and a major destination for readers, writers, and publishers from across the region and beyond.
