In Detail: Sisi-Trump Summit on Sidelines of UNGA74

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held talks with the U.S. counterpart President President Donald Trump in New York on the sidelines of the UNGA74. 

Ambassador Bassam Rady, Spokesman for the Presidency, said that the US President welcomed Sisi, affirming his appreciation to him. 

Second Meeting between Sisi and Trump in Two Months

“Washington reiterates the keenness of the US administration to activate the frameworks of bilateral cooperation, and to strengthen coordination and strategic consultation between the two countries and development during the next phase,” Rady added.

"This is the second meeting with President Trump in less than two months," Sisi said.

The Spokesman outlined that President Sisi stressed the state keenness to strengthen the distinguished partnership relations between the two countries.

“Sisi pointed out the importance of that partnership in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East,” Rady noted. “Egypt looks forward to further coordination and consultation with the United States on various regional issues.

Responding to a question during the Egyptian-US summit, Sisi stressed that the political Islam is behind the instability in the Middle East region.

Answering the same question, Trump gave strong backing to Sisi amid news of few protests at home, saying the United States and Egypt have a great long-term relationship.

“Everybody has demonstrations,” Trump said. “No, I’m not concerned with it. Egypt has a great leader.”

Earlier this day, Sisi met with three heads of governments in Europe on the sidelines of the UNGA74.

The meeting, on the sidelines of the UNGA74, touched on the issue of combating terrorism, where the US President praised Egypt's successful efforts in resolving the threat of terrorism as the greatest threat to the stability of the region and the world. 

Emphasizing UNGA74 Importance to address peoples

On his part, Trump stressed that Egypt is a key partner in the war on terrorism.

“Washington fully supports the Egyptian efforts in this regard.”

In this context, the President of Egypt stressed the importance of continuing joint cooperation between Egypt and the United States to undermine the threat of terrorist organizations and prevent the arrival of support to them, including money, weapons and inpiduals.

Sisi reviewed Egypt's efforts at all levels, military, security, development and intellectual, to eliminate the phenomenon of terrorism and ideological extremism. 

Moreover, he pointed to the need to join efforts of the international community to deal with the spread of this phenomenon.

Economically, Rady clarified that the meeting reviewed aspects of bilateral cooperation and ways to maximize the investment activities of American companies in Egypt. 

Accordingly, the US President hailed the Egyptian economic reform program, expressing his country’s eagerness to upgrade the commercial exchange level and increase mutual investments.

Recent developments in Libya, Syria and Yemen, as long as the Palestinian cause were tackled as well during Sisi-Trump summit. 

Thus, President Sisi asserted the Egyptian position towards the peace process, noting hat the establishment of an independent state for the Palestinians upon international revisions is a fair solution.

In a related context, Sisi also presented Egypt's efforts to achieve Palestinian reconciliation as a key step to resume negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis.

Following-up the developments in Sudan, President affirmed Egypt's keenness to stability of Khartoum, stressing the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to help the country to restore stability.

Furthermore, Trump praised the achievements made during the Egyptian presidency of the African Union, especially in the development and economic issues, including the activation of the African continental free trade zone.

In addition, he expressed the aspiration to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two sides in this regard, which will represent an important step open to US companies unprecedented prospects in the African market.

This is important especially In light of Egypt's pivotal role in the Middle East as a main pillar for the maintenance of peace and security for all the peoples of the region.
