Idris Elba (Hijack) and Rebecca Ferguson (Silo) are circling Academy Award winner Kathryn Bigelow‘s next movie for Netflix.
While details of the roles the pair are playing are under wraps, as are the film’s title and plot, sources have revealed that it will be set at the White House as a national crisis unfolds.
The project marks Bigelow’s first feature since the 2017 thriller "Detroit", an awards contender produced and distributed by Annapurna Pictures, which starred John Boyega, Will Poulter, Kaitlyn Dever, and more.
News of the pic was first divulged by Netflix recently during its Upfront presentation in New York. Previously, Bigelow had been developing another Netflix film that never got off the ground — an adaptation of the novel Aurora by David Koepp.
Currently starring in the Apple TV+ thriller series "Hijack", which has been renewed for a second season, Elba has also recently been seen starring in Paramount+’s "Sonic the Hedgehog" miniseries Knuckles, as well as the popular Netflix films "Extraction II" and "Luther: The Fallen Sun" — the latter, a follow-up to his hit crime drama "Luther", which ran for five seasons. Up next he'll star in Amazon MGM’s action thriller "Heads of State" with Carla Gugino and Jack Quaid, as well as "Sonic the Hedgehog 3".
Ferguson stars in Apple’s popular sci-fi series "Silo", which is also heading into its second season, having additionally reprised of late in Denis Villeneuve’s hit sequel to 2021’s "Dune". Also seen starring opposite Tom Cruise in last summer’s "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One" she’ll next be seen in Amazon’s sci-fi pic "Mercy" co-starring Chris Pratt.
