Iconic Greek Composer Vangelis Passes away Aged 79

Iconic Greek composer Vangelis, who is known for presenting the musical themes for Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner, passed away at the age of 79, BBC reported on Friday. The composer has died because of Coronavirus complications.

He won the oscars for Chariots of Fire that was released in 1981.

The film's producer Lord Puttnam told the BBC that Vangelis created "a new musical landscape".

Furthermore, French musician Jean-Michel Jarre and Dutch trance DJ Armin van Buuren paid severtal tributes to the late composer who was one of the electronic music biooners.

Van Buuren wrote on Twitter that Vangelis was one of his heroes and "just a beautiful person", adding that he listened to his music a lot.

While, Jarre wrote in a tribute: "We will all remember your unique touch and your moving melodies forever.

Austin Wintory described that Vangelis "changed an entire era of music".

Bear McCreary said that he was "a true musical pioneer", asserting: "Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner were among the most innovative and influential scores in the history of the medium."

British artist Daniel Pemberton said it was "hard to underestimate the colossal impact of Vangelis on modern film music".

Pamberton continued: "It is also hard to understand how groundbreaking Chariots of Fire was. A period British film with a phenomenal synth score."
