Iconic Egyptian Actor Abdulaziz Makhyoon Dies at 80

Renowned Egyptian actor Abdulaziz Makhyoon died on Wednesday morning after a severe health crisis. He was 80.

The late actor's funeral is scheduled to be held after the Zuhr (noon) prayer in Abu Hummus town, Beheira Governorate, Egypt.

The date and location for the solace ceremony have not yet been announced.

In the days leading up to his death, Makhyoun was urgently transferred to a hospital in Alexandria, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Doctors confirmed that the veteran actor was suffering from acute pneumonia and severe shortness of breath, which ultimately led to a critical deterioration of his health.

Born on June 3, 1943, Makhyoon was a highly respected figure in the Arab artistic community.

He honed his craft at the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts, graduating to embark on a career that would span decades and define eras of Egyptian entertainment.

​The late actor made a powerful cinematic debut, appearing in seminal works of Egyptian cinema, including "El-Karnak," and collaborating with legendary director Youssef Chahine in masterpiece films such as "Alexandria... Why?" and "Hadota Masrya".

​His extensive filmography solidified his reputation as a versatile and heavyweight actor. Notable big-screen appearances included "The Hunger", "For Love, One Last Story", "The Escape", "Fares El-Madina" (1993), "The Blood of Deer", and Khaled Youssef's "Dukan Shehata".

​Beyond cinema, Makhyoon was a staple of Egyptian television's "Golden Age."

He starred in some of the most influential and beloved drama series in Arab history, leaving an indelible mark with roles in "Al-Shahd wel Domouaa", "Laialy El-Helmia", "Aunt Safiya and the Monastery", "Zezenia", and the critically acclaimed biographical series "Umm Kulthum".
