On Saturday, the Grand Egyptian Museum received Dr. Salim Mohammed AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), and his accompanying delegation.
They were received by Major General Atef Moftah, General Supervisor of the Grand Egyptian Museum project and the surrounding area, and Dr. Essa Zeidan, Executive General Director of Restoration and Transfer of Antiquities at the Museum.
Major General Atef Moftah accompanied the ICESCO Director General and his accompanying delegation on a tour of the museum.
The tour included the Hanging Obelisk Square, which was chosen as part of the museum show scenario. It was moved from the San Al-Hajar antiquities area in Sharqia and erected in front of the Grand Museum, to become the first hanging obelisk in the world.
The Great Hall was also visited, where the statue of King Ramses II, which was moved from Ramses Square downtown to the museum, was visited. They also visited the victory column of King Merneptah, the statues of the king and queen from the Ptolemaic era, in addition to the group of ten statues of King Senusret I.
He also watched a short film about the first stages of moving Khufu's boat from the Giza Pyramids to its permanent display at the Khufu Boat Museum in the Grand Egyptian Museum.
At the end of the tour, the ICESCO Director General expressed his great pleasure with this visit, and with what he saw inside this great edifice and the unique artifacts it contains that embody the greatness of the Egyptian civilization.
He referred to his love for Egypt, describing it as the mother of civilizations, and that this museum is the best evidence of this great civilization, in addition to its application of the latest technological methods of museum display and a team of skilled and trained specialists.
