On Saturday, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Fustat welcomed Michael Edward, a senior official from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as part of his official visit to Egypt. He was accompanied by Amr El-Hag, President of the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority.
The delegation was received by Tayeb Abbas, CEO of the museum authority, who warmly welcomed the visitors and highlighted the museum’s unique role in preserving and showcasing Egypt’s rich cultural heritage.
Abbas introduced the guests to the museum’s strategic location, historical significance, and its growing role in cultural and community engagement. As a token of appreciation, he presented Dr. Edward with a commemorative gift—a catalog of the Royal Mummies, one of the museum’s most celebrated collections.
The visit included an informative tour led by Maysera Salah, museum curator, who guided the delegation through the central exhibition hall, the Royal Mummies Hall, and the Egyptian Textiles Gallery. The guests explored a wide array of artifacts that chronicle the evolution of Egyptian civilization from prehistoric times to the modern era.
In addition, the IAEA delegation toured the museum’s state-of-the-art conservation and scientific research laboratories.
They were introduced to advanced technologies used in the analysis, preservation, and restoration of ancient artifacts—tools that represent a pioneering step in heritage science across the Middle East.
