Hussein Fahmy, veteran Egyptian actor and the President of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), will be honored at the opening ceremony of the 5th edition of the Casablanca Arab Film Festival, set to take place from September 6 to 13.
He will be the recipient of the Special Creativity Award in recognition of his rich cinematic career, as well as his extraordinary contribution to the Egyptian and Arab film industry for more than half a century.
The festival’s administration revealed that it will hold a “Masterclass” for the acclaimed star on the sidelines of the festival which is an invaluable opportunity to address the audience, filmmakers, and cinema lovers about the most important features of his creative journey as well as his artistic career, and his views about the reality of Arab Cinema now and in the future.
The administration added, “It is honoring Hussein Fahmy in its next edition as it pays tribute to one of the cinema personalities who has offered a lot to Arab art carving a place for himself in the memory of all the viewers of Arab Cinema and Drama”.
Fahmy expressed his happiness for being honored by the Casablanca Festival which is not only a celebration of films, but a celebration of the artists who make such films, pointing out that he values Morocco as a country and admires the progress made so far in the Cinema movement in Morocco.
He also expressed looking forward to meeting with the Casablanca audience and talking with them about his cinema career.
Fahmy added he filmed a number of films in Morocco throughout his career such as “My blood, My tears, and My Smiles.”
Throughout his great artistic career, the acclaimed star made many films with more than 200 films, TV episodes, plays, and Radio serials to his name, as well as working with the greatest directors in Egyptian Cinema such as Youssef Shahin, Kamal El Sheikh, Henry Barakat, Mohamed Khan, Sherif Arafa to mention but a few.
He was also served in a number of prestigious cultural positions such as presiding over CIFF for two editions the first of which was from 1998 till 2001, and the second from 2022 to date.
