Another tribute has been selected.
The new “Hunger Games” prequel “Sunrise on the Reaping” has cast Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, one of the tributes from District 12 alongside lead character Haymitch Abernathy.
The “Sunrise on the Reaping” novel was published on March 18 and takes place 24 years before the events of the original Hunger Games, when Haymitch was chosen as one of the unlucky tributes to fight to the death.
Woody Harrelson originated the role of Haymitch in the original “Hunger Games” series alongside franchise star Jennifer Lawrence, but newcomer Joseph Zada will play a younger version of him in “Sunrise on the Reaping,” it was announced on Wednesday.
Whitney Peak will play Haymitch’s girlfriend Lenore Dove Baird.
“Sunrise on the Reaping” will hit theaters on November 20, 2026. Francis Lawrence, who has helmed every installment of the franchise since 2012’s “Catching Fire,” will direct from a screenplay adaptation by Billy Ray. Color Force’s Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will produce. Cameron MacConomy will executive produce.
The new movie comes after the 2023 prequel “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” which took place 40 years before “Sunrise on the Reaping” and starred Rachel Zegler as District 12 winner Lucy Gray Baird and Tom Blyth as a young Coriolanus Snow, before he became president.
Grace has starred in “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” and will next be seen in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel “Regretting You” for Paramount. Up next, she also has Blumhouse’s “Kiss of Death,” “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” “Scream 7,” and Lionsgate’s “Anniversary.”
