The 94th Academy Awards, also known as Oscars, is set to take place on Sunday, March 27, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
What to expect?
The awards will be presented slightly differently. Eight categories will be taped an hour before the broadcast starts, with footage will be edited into the main show.
The event will also feature the performances of Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell, as well as Beyoncé, Reba McEntire, and Sebastián Yatra. They are set to perform four of the five songs nominated.
The ceremony will require most attendees to show proof of Coronavirus vaccination.
All nominees and invited guests inside the Dolby Theater must show proof of vaccination and test negative at least twice via PCR testing.
However, those performing and presenting the awards ceremony will not need to show proof of vaccination but will be tested ultracareful.
Who is hosting and presenting the awards?
After three consecutive years without a host, the Oscars this year will have threes hosts. Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes will be sharing hosting duties.
This marks the first time in Academy Award history that the ceremony will be hosted by three women.
“Aquaman” star Jason Momoa and Academy Award nominee Josh Brolin is set to present all eight Oscar categories cut from the live broadcast.
The categories include Original Score, Makeup and Hairstyling, Documentary Short, Film Editing, Production Design, Animated Short, and Live Action Short and Sound.
The hour-long ceremony will be edited into the show. Momoa and Brolin, who both star in best picture nominee “Dune”, will also make appearances during the ceremony.
The event will also be presented by Jake Gyllenhaal, Serena and Venus Williams, Rachel Zegler, Josh Brolin, Jacob Elordi, Jill Scott, J.K. Simmons, John Travolta, Mila Kunis, Lupita Nyong’o, Naomi Scott, Wesley Snipes, Anthony Hopkins, Lily James, Simu Liu, Rami Malek, Uma Thurman, Kevin Costner, Lady Gaga, Chris Rock, and Zoë Kravitz.
The presenters also include Daniel Kaluuya, Ruth E. Carter, John Leguizamo, Rosie Perez, Yuh-Jung Youn, Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, Jennifer Garner, DJ Khaled, Tiffany Haddish, Tony Hawk, Stephanie Beatriz, Kelly Slater, Shaun White, H.E.R., Bill Murray, and Elliot Page.
“High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens, “Are You The One” host Terrence J, and fashion designer Brandon Maxwell will host the “The Oscars Red Carpet Show,” the official pre-show for the Oscars.
The 90-minute special will highlight Oscar nominees, performers, and presenters and give fans around the world the ultimate insiders’ sneak peek at Hollywood’s biggest night.
Who are the nominees?
Nominees for 23 categories were announced in February. "Power of the Dog" and "CODA" are the favorites to win the best picture.
"The Power of the Dog" leads the nominations with 12 nods, the sci-fi epic “Dune” scored 10, and “West Side Story” and “Belfast” received seven nods each.
The ceremony will feature a brand-new award. Instead of being chosen by members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Oscars' new Fan-Favorite Award will be decided by a popular vote held on Twitter.
The award highlights the movies of 2021 which were critically acclaimed box office hits, but was largely ignored in the nominations, such as “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “No Time To Die”.
