"How I Met Your Father" Canceled after Two Seasons

“How I Met Your Father” has been canceled after two seasons at Hulu.

The Hilary Duff-led spinoff concluded its second (and now final) season on July 11 without revealing who Duff’s character, Sophie, ended up having a child with.  The show debuted in January 2022 and aired 30 episodes overall.

The series followed Sophie (Duff) telling her son the story of how she met his father. It also depicted Sophie and her tight-knit group of friends in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

“How I Met Your Father” is based on the massively successful series "How I Met Your Mother", which was centered around Ted Mosby and his search for true love, a journey he narrated to his two teenage children.

It starred Josh Radnor, Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, and Jason Segel.

Both series took place in the future, with Sophie's story beginning in 2022. While it was a separate story from the 2005-2014 CBS hit “How I Met Your Mother,” the spinoff existed in the same universe and included cameos from Harris’ character Barney Stinson and Smulders’ Robin Scherbatsky.

Narrated by Kim Cattrall, who plays the 58-year-old version of Sophie, “How I Met Your Father” stars Duff, Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran and Suraj Sharma. Recurring actors include Daniel Augustin, Ashley Reyes, and Josh Peck.

The series was created by former “This Is Us” showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. Aptaker and Berger executive produced alongside “How I Met Your Mother” creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and “How I Met Your Mother” director Pamela Fryman, as well as Adam Londy and Suzy Mamann Greenberg. Hilary Duff serves as a producer.

“How I Met Your Father” hailed from 20th Television, which shares Disney with Hulu as a parent company.
