Construction work on the Iconic Tower, which is expected to inject new vitality into the national economic and social development plan, has continued uninterrupted since the outbreak of the coronavirus.

In the same context, Egypt's Ministry of Housing revealed on Wednesday that 60 floors of the 78-floor Iconic Tower, in the the New Administrative Capital's Business District, have been constructed so far.

In a phone interview with Alhayat TV, the Spokesman for the Housing Ministry Omar Khatib stated that the massive project is being implemented in cooperation between the Housing Ministry represented by the New Urban Communities Authority and the leading China State Construction Engineering Corporation.

"Once completed, the tower will be the tallest in Africa at about 400 meters, currently stands at 300 meters high," the Housing Ministry Spokesman indicated.

Moreover, the Minister of Housing Assam El-Gazzar explained earlier that the investments in the Central Business District project are estimated at $3 billion.

According to domestic reports, Egypt's administration had planned to relocate ministries and 52,300 government employees to the new capital by mid-2020, but the coronavirus forced the authorities to delay the move till mid-2021.

It's worth noting that the top 36 floors will be apartments, the middle 18 floors will be a hotel with approximately 230 keys and the remaining floors below will be reserved for amenities like a casino, night club, spa, health club and shopping area.
