Dr. Assem Al-Jazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, said, on Saturday, that said that the drinking water supply and sanitation sector is one of the most important sectors that directly affect the life of the citizen.
"This sector has faced many problems and challenges in previous periods,” Al-Jazzar noted.
Al-Jazzar also announced the completion of 42.5% of sanitation projects in the countryside by 2021.
During the inauguration of a number of national projects in Alexandria, Al-Jazzar added that the current coverage rate of drinking water reached 99% after it was 97% in 2014.
The minister revealed that currently 33.6 million cubic meters of water are produced per day, representing 12.2 billion cubic meters per year, with 180 thousand kilometers long network.
The minister pointed out that the sanitation service rate was 50% in 2014, but it currently reached 65% at the urban level, then it reached 96%, and 37.5% in the countryside .
