Hossam El Shaer, Chairman of the Egyptian Tourism Federation, stated that the election of Dr. Khaled El-Enany as President of UNESCO on October 6, 2025, marks a historic and unprecedented achievement, as he becomes the first Arab to assume this position in 80 years.
In his speech during the press conference held to celebrate Egypt’s victory in securing the UNESCO presidency, El Shaer emphasized that Dr. El-Enany has successfully captured the world’s attention in recent years through major international events, most notably the Royal Mummies Parade, which global media described as one of the most magnificent cultural spectacles of the modern era.
El Shaer added that El-Enany’s tenure as Minister of Tourism and Antiquities represented a turning point in the history of Egyptian tourism, as Egypt became the first country to reopen its doors to tourists following the COVID-19 crisis — a result of the measures he implemented to restore confidence in Egypt as a premier global destination.
He further highlighted that the Tourism Law No. 8, issued during that period, constituted a qualitative leap in regulating and developing the sector’s investment environment. El Shaer concluded by affirming that Dr. El-Enany’s election to this prestigious international position reflects the global community’s recognition of Egyptian competence and its vital role in promoting cultural dialogue and safeguarding human heritage.
