"Horizon Zero Dawn" Movie in Development

The Horizon Zero Dawn movie is on the way.

PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures, the studio behind the Uncharted movie from 2022, announced the long-awaited project during Sony's press conference at CES 2025.

This isn’t the first time the Horizon Zero Dawn movie to be toyed with.

A movie adaptation was being discussed over at Netflix. Unfortunately, years of development went nowhere. This time around, the film is in the early stages of development, according to PlayStation Productions Head Asad Qizilbash.

While speaking at CES 2025, Qizilbash gave a brief overview of what fans can expect from the film adaptation of the popular game. He said: "Just imagine, Aloy's beloved origin story set in a vibrant, far future world filled with the giant machines, brought to you for the first time on the big screen."

While, it's definitely vague, but it seems like the film may be focused on Aloy's backstory, which was a big part of what drove Horizon Zero Dawn the original game.

Released in 2017, Guerilla Games' Horizon Zero Dawn is set in a future version of Earth where apocalypse survivors have built various societies to protect themselves from dinosaur-like machines and invaders. Aloy decides to head out on a journey to save the clans but also learn more about her own past. Fans of the game loved the strong female lead, the unique world design, and the intense combat.

Sony seems to be banking big on video game adaptations. During the same press conference, a film adaptation of "Helldivers 2" and an anime series adaptation of "Ghost of Tsushima" were also announced.

No date for "Horizon Zero Dawn" or the other projects have been given.
