The Russian House in Cairo celebrated the 90th anniversary of the birth of renowned Russian filmmaker Stanislav Govorukhin with a special screening of the Soviet classic Assa, attended by a distinguished cultural and artistic audience.
“Assa” is considered a landmark in Soviet cinema, reflecting the profound transformations that took place in the late 1980s. Through a deeply human drama, the film portrays the conflict between traditional values and emerging ideas that paved the way for major societal changes.

Before the screening, Sherif Gad, Cultural Activities Director at the Russian House, delivered a speech highlighting key milestones in Govorukhin’s career as both director and actor. He also referred to the film Bless the Woman, starring Svetlana Khodchenkova, which was previously screened at the Cairo International Film Festival and received notable acclaim from Egyptian audiences.

For his part, cinematographer Mahmoud Abdel Samea, President of the Film Society, praised Govorukhin’s distinctive directing style and his professionalism in working with actors, emphasizing the refined dramatic sense reflected in his impactful characters.
The event was attended by members of the Association of Russian and Soviet Universities Alumni, as well as representatives of the Egyptian-Russian Friendship Association and the Film Society, in an evening that underscored the depth of cultural ties between Egypt and Russia.
