Hisham El-Leithy Appointed Acting Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities

 Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly has issued a decree appointing Dr. Hisham El-Leithy, Head of the Antiquities Preservation and Registration Sector, as the Acting Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA).

The appointment, made upon the recommendation of the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, is effective for a six-month term. Dr. El-Leithy succeeds Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled in the role.

Recognition of Service

Mr. Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, expressed his profound gratitude to Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled for his dedicated efforts and contributions during his tenure as Secretary-General, wishing him continued success in his future endeavors.

A Distinguished Career in Egyptology

Dr. Hisham El-Leithy brings a wealth of leadership experience to the position, having served as Head of the Antiquities Preservation and Registration Sector since 2023. His career trajectory within the SCA includes several key leadership roles:

 2018: Head of the Central Administration for Egyptian, Greek, and Roman Antiquities in Cairo and Giza.

2015: Director-General of the Center for Documentation of Egyptian Antiquities (CDEA).

 2011–2015: Director-General of Scientific Publications.

Furthermore, Dr. El-Leithy has overseen museum and mission storehouses and led numerous archaeological missions in Upper Egypt.

Academic and International Contributions

A prominent figure in the international scientific community, Dr. El-Leithy holds the distinction of being the first Egyptian archaeologist to be named an Honorary Research Associate at the Griffith Institute, University of Oxford.

His academic portfolio includes:

 Publications: Over 40 international scientific articles and contributions to five scholarly books.

Conferences: Extensive participation as a researcher and coordinator in global archaeological forums.

 Education: He earned his Master’s degree in Egyptian Antiquities in 2001, followed by a Doctorate in 2012.
