Hilary Duff is finally back with new music, dropping her new song “Mature” after taking several years off to focus on acting.
The bright pop track arrived Friday and finds the performer reckoning with her past and present self.
“‘Mature’ is a little conversation that my present self is having with my younger self,” Duff said of the project in a statement. “The two of us are reflecting on a past experience and sending love to each other. It’s a chuckle, a wink, and a sense of being grateful that we are sure footed in where we landed.”
Marking her first proper release in nearly a decade, “Mature” was cowritten by Duff’s husband, producer Matthew Koma, and Halsey collaborator Madison Love.
The "Lizzie McGuire" alum last dropped a solo song in 2016, when she released the single “Little Lies.”
In 2020, Duff assisted Koma and artist RAC on a track titled “Never Let You Go.”
The hitmaker first announced “Mature” just a few days prior to its release, though fans had known before then that she was planning to return to music.
In September, Duff — who hasn’t released an album since 2015’s "Breathe In., Breathe Out." — signed a new label deal with Atlantic Records.
At the same time, it was announced that the multi-talented artist would be the subject of a docuseries chronicling Duff’s personal journey back to making music.
She rose to fame on the Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire in the early 2000s and then crossed over to pop music.
Duff previously released her first few albums (“Metamorphosis,” “Hilary Duff“) through Buena Vista and Hollywood Records.
