"Wednesday" has returned to terrify Netflix Geeked Week with a new teaser for Season 2.
Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar with Tim Burton on board as director and producer, "Wednesday" is led by Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Scream star Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams.
It explores the teenage years of the Addams Family sibling and how she adapts to her new high school, Nevermore Academy, with the first season following Wednesday Addams as she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a killing spree, and solve the mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago.
"Wednesday" has amassed a stellar cast alongside Ortega, including Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, George Burcea as Lurch, Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, and Victor Dorobantu as Thing.
Season 2 will focus more on the Addams Family, with the likes of Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo being promoted to regulars for the second outing.
Fred Armisen will also reprise the role of Uncle Fester, with other returning cast members including Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, and Georgie Farmer.
The first season was a major hit for Netflix, largely thanks to the central performance of Ortega, who was nominated for a Golden Globe.
It won four Primetime Emmy Awards and was met with glowing reviews from both critics and audiences alike. Wednesday became the second most-streamed debut of all time on Netflix and currently holds the record for most hours viewed in a week for an English-language Netflix series.
"Wednesday" Season 2 will also star Thandiwe Newton (Crash, Westworld), who joins the cast as Dr. Fairburn, with the likes of Billie Piper (Scoop), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill), Owen Painter (Tiny Beautiful Things), Noah Taylor (Law & Order: Organized Crime), Frances O’Connor (The Missing), Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense), Heather Matarazzo (The Princess Diaries), and Joonas Suotamo (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), and Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley, who is set to star in the series as new Addams family member Grandmama.
The most surprising and intriguing new addition to the cast, however, is Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd, who has been cast in Season 2 in a currently undisclosed role.
The reason the casting is so surprising is this is not Lloyd’s first foray into the ghoulish escapades of The Addams Family, with the actor having starred as Uncle Fester in both 1991’s The Addams Family and its sequel Addams Family Values in 1993. His role in Wednesday sees him join former Wednesday Addams herself, and his former co-star, Christina Ricci, who featured in the first season.
"Wednesday" Season 2 will debut on Netflix in 2025.
