Universal Studios has finally unveiled the first glimpse at the live-action re-imagining of DreamWorks Animation's epic franchise "How To Train Your Dragon"
The live-action version flies into theaters on June 13 and includes many of the original characters played by new faces. Among these are Mason Thames (“The Black Phone”) as Hiccup, Nico Parker (“Dumbo,” “The Last of Us”) as Astrid and Julian Dennison (“Deadpool 2”) as Fishlegs Ingerman. Gerard Butler plays Hiccup’s father Stoick the Vast, after the voiced the character in the animated trilogy.
The trailer introduces Hiccup, Stoick and Toothless.
It also showcased Hiccup undergoing his viking training, which entails going out and kill a dragon, but instead he befriends the adorable dragon Toothless.
Dean DeBlois, who wrote and directed all three animated “How to Train Your Dragon” movies, has the same responsibilities for the live-action movie.
The DreamWorks movies included the original “How to Train Your Dragon” in 2010, “How to Train Your Dragon 2” in 2014 and “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” in 2019.
Based on the book series by Cressida Cowell, the movies follow a young man named Hiccup who stumbles upon a trapped, injured dragon that he befriends, trains and eventually names Toothless.
The storyline is set on the Isle of Berk, which houses a group of vikings. The franchise also includes three TV series, theme park rides, and a live show, “How to Train Your Dragon on Ice.” Overall, the series has generated more than $1.6 billion worldwide.
