Heightened Security in Egypt Ahead of World Men's Handball Championship

On Wednesday, Egypt is taking unprecedented measures to secure the activities of World Men's Handball Championship 2021 via a comprehensive security plan.

Tens of thousands of policemen were deployed in the vicinity of Cairo International Stadium

The plan also includes high security alert and raising the degree of readiness via deploying security members around the courts and halls where the matches will be played.

A big number of rapid deployment forces will be also deployed around important to immediately handle all urgent situations to maintain security and order.

The 27th edition of the championship is being hosted this year by Egypt from January 13 to 31.

Teams from 32 countries will take part in the tournament with the Egyptian national team opening the competition with a match against Chile on Wednesday in the Cairo International Stadium.

The tournament includes eight groups in the first round, with four teams in each group. The top three teams from each group will qualify for the second round.

In the main round, the 24 teams will be pided into four groups, with two teams in each group qualifying for the quarterfinals.

The championship is taking place at four venues, without fans, around Egypt: the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex, the New Administrative Capital’s Sports Hall, Alexandria’s Borg El Arab Sports Hall, and the 6th of October Sports Hall.
