Dr. Zahi Hawass, well-known Egyptologist and former Minister of Antiquities, affirmed that discovery of pregnant Egyptian mummy is not the first of its kind.

Hawass revealed that the first and oldest "pregnant mummy" was a skeleton of a "dwarf" in the tombs of workers who built the pyramids, dating back to 4,600 years. In addition, the Egyptologist noted that this discovery was in 2010.

“We discovered this mummy in the workers' graves. At that time, it was the first discovery of its kind,” he stressed. “Therefore, the discovery announced by Polish scientists is not new to us.”

Polish scientists at the Warsaw Mummy Project, who have been working to thoroughly examine human and animal mummies from Ancient Egypt at the National Museum in Warsaw, claimed that this discovery was the first of its kind anywhere in the world.

"Presented here is the only known example of a mummified pregnant woman and the first radiological images of such a foetus," they wrote in the journal article announcing the find.

"This is our most important and most significant finding so far, a total surprise," team member Wojciech Ejsmond of the Polish Academy of Sciences told the Associated Press.
