World-renowned Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass hosted American actress Jodie Smith for a private tour of the Pyramids of Giza, offering an in-depth look into the region’s ancient mysteries.
The tour began at the iconic Great Sphinx, where Hawass shared fascinating insights into its construction and debunked long-standing myths surrounding the monument.
Hawass explained that the Sphinx was carved from a single block of limestone and attributed it to King Khafre, builder of the Second Pyramid of Giza. He emphasized that scientific evidence disproves rumors about a lost city beneath the Sphinx, clarifying that no archaeological findings support such claims.
The tour also included an overview of the tombs of the workers who built the pyramids, revealing that these laborers were not slaves but skilled craftsmen whose contributions left a lasting legacy.
Groundbreaking Discoveries Highlighted on the Tour
During the tour, Dr. Hawass discussed some of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 21st century, including the Wadi El-Jarf papyri, which offer unprecedented insight into the construction of King Khufu’s Great Pyramid. These ancient documents provide essential details on how the massive stones were transported and assembled, solving parts of the long-standing mystery surrounding the Great Pyramid’s construction.
Hawass also elaborated on findings from the ScanPyramids Project, a scientific mission that has used advanced technology to explore hidden chambers within the pyramids.
He shared details about the discovery of a 9-meter-long corridor located on the northern side of the Great Pyramid of Khufu, providing valuable clues about the pyramid’s internal architecture.
