Paramount+ has revealed the premiere date and first look at the second season of the TV adaptation of the iconic game franchise “Halo”.

The second season of the series will premiere on February 8, 2024, in all countries where Paramount+ is available. The first two episodes of the season will drop on that date with new episodes dropping weekly thereafter.

The adaptation depicts humans’ intergalactic war against an alien menace known as the Covenant. To win the war, the brilliant scientist Dr. Halsey (Natascha McElhone) created the Spartans, super-soldiers genetically and technologically enhanced to improve their physical and mental capabilities.

It also follows the story of Master Chief Spartan John-117 (Schreiber), the commander of a Spartan unity.

The official description for Season 2 states, “Master Chief John-117 (Schreiber) leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant. In the wake of a shocking event on a desolate planet, John cannot shake the feeling that his war is about to change and risks everything to prove what no one else will believe – that the Covenant are preparing to attack humanity’s greatest stronghold. With the galaxy on the brink, John embarks on a journey to find the key to humankind’s salvation, or its extinction — the Halo.”

The series stars McElhone, Jen Taylor, Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Natasha Culzac, Olive Gray, Yerin Ha, Bentley Kalu, Kate Kennedy, Charlie Murphy, Danny Sapani, Fiona O’Shaughnessy, and Tylan Bailey.

Season 2 of "Halo" introduces Joseph Morgan as James Ackerson and Cristina Rodlo as Talia Perez.

James Ackerson is a formidable intelligence operative who has spent his career climbing the ranks of the UNSC’s secretive Office of Naval Intelligence; Perez is a corporal specializing in linguistics for a UNSC Marine Corps communications unit and a relatively new recruit who has yet to see any real combat.

The series is produced by Showtime, 343 Industries, and Amblin Entertainment. The adaptation was announced in 2013 as part of Xbox’s push to produce multimedia content, however, Xbox Entertainment Studios closed up shop in 2014, which resulted in the series being picked up by Showtime.

In 2018, Showtime gave it a series order with Kyle Killen as showrunner and Rupert Wyatt attached to direct several episodes. Wyatt departed the series in late 2018 due to schedule conflicts, and Otto Bathurst took over as director.

In March 2019, Steven Kane came aboard as co-showrunner, overseeing physical production in Budapest while Killen supervised writing and production in the US. Killen quietly departed late in 2019, while Kane parted ways after wrapping production.

In February 2021, ViacomCBS moved “Halo” from Showtime to Paramount+ahead of the streamer’s rebranding and expansion of the former CBS All Access.

"Halo" season one premiered on Paramount+ on Thursday, March 24.
