Hagar ElSarrag Joins TV Adaptation of "Embratoreyet Meem"

Egyptian actress of Syrian origin Hagar ElSarrag has recently joined the cast of the TV adaptation of the 1972 film "Embratoreyet Meem" (Empire M).

The cast also incudes Khaled El-Nabawy, Hala Shiha, Nour El-Nabawy, Nashwa Moustafa, Mahmoud Hafez, Mohamed Mahmoud Abdulaziz, Eman Al Sayyed, and more.

The series is scripted by Mohamed Suleiman Abdel Malek, directed by Mohamed Salama, and produced by Aroma Studios production company.

"Embratoreyet Meem" follows a Mona (Faten Hamama), a widow raising her six kids besides her work. She gradually falls in love with businessman Ahmed (Ahmed Mazhar) but doesn't give in to her feelings easily being torn apart between her devotion to her children and her future with Ahmed.

The film featured a cast that included Faten Hamama, Ahmed Mazhar, Hesham Selim, Dawlat Abyad, Ali Gawhar, Saif Abo El Naga, Nagyat Kandel, and others.

Filmmaker Hussein Kamal directed the pic from a script by Ihsan Abd al-Qudus and Mustafa Samy.

The reimagining consists of 30 episodes and will be screened during the Ramadan 2024 drama marathon. 

Principal photography is currently underway.

ElSarrag can be currently seen in the legal comedy-drama "Hala Khasa" (A Special Case). 

The drama follows Amani Al-Najjar, (Played by Ghada Adel) a brilliant lawyer who always breaks the rules, and Nadim Ahmed Abo Sreaa (Taha Desouky), an exceptional individual whose life is full of many challenges.

It is a "Watch IT" original series consisting of 10 episodes and marks Desouky's first major role in a drama. The series is scripted by Muhab Tarek, directed by Abdul Aziz Al-Najjar, and produced by Tarek El Ganainy.

ElSarrag, an Egyptian actress of Syrian origin, studied directing and photography and took many acting workshops. 

She began her career in showbiz working as an assistant director on some commercials and TV series as well as appearing in several ads, short films, and a graduation project. 

ElSarrag has blasted onto the scene in the 2022 Ramadan hit "Betlou’ Al-Rouh", where she stars as the wife of the ISIS leader Omar Al Desouky, played by Ahmed Elsaadany, in the Syrian city Ar Raqqah. 

She gave a striking performance in the series, playing a naive, yet rebellious woman who does things forbidden for ISIS women, such as smoking, going to the salon, and wearing makeup. However, she is fascinated with her world in Ar Raqqah, and her ISIS leader husband who has authority over this terrorist. 

Her TV credits also include "Batn El Hoot", "Aitizan", and "Ded El Kasr".
