On Tuesday, the Embassy of Greece in Cairo hosted a distinguished reception to celebrate the National Day of the Hellenic Republic, bringing together senior officials, diplomats, cultural figures, and members of the Greek community.
Ambassador of Greece to Egypt, Nikolaos Papageorgiou, opened the National Day reception in Cairo by warmly welcoming guests and expressing his appreciation for their presence at the celebration.
The celebration was held at the historic Greek Scouts Center in Cairo, a venue the Ambassador described as a meaningful symbol of the long-standing Greek presence in Egypt, serving as the headquarters of the Greek Scouts in Cairo since 1924.
He expressed that the scouts, originally established in the city in 1913, remain an active and dedicated part of the Greek community, reflecting its deep roots and ongoing contributions.
He added that Greece marks its National Day each year on March 25, commemorating the outbreak of the Greek War of Independence in 1821, a historic milestone that led to the establishment of the modern Greek state.
The Ambassador highlighted that this year also marks the bicentenary of the heroic Exodus of Messolonghi in 1826, describing it as a powerful symbol of courage, sacrifice, and resilience that deeply influenced the course of the independence movement.
Reflecting on the present, he emphasized that Greece continues to play a stabilizing role in its region and beyond, working to build strong partnerships based on mutual respect and adherence to international law.
He underscored the strength of Greek-Egyptian relations, describing them as a model of cooperation across multiple sectors, including politics, trade, economy, education, culture, and energy.

He also welcomed the presence of Egypt’s Minister of Culture, Dr. Jehan Zaki, who attended on behalf of the Prime Minister, describing her participation as a reflection of the strong and growing ties between the two countries, particularly in the cultural sphere.
Representing the Egyptian government, Minister of Culture Dr. Jehan Zaki conveyed the greetings of the Prime Minister and extended her congratulations to Greece on its National Day.
In her remarks, she affirmed that the relationship between Egypt and Greece is deeply rooted in history, spanning more than three thousand years, and has played a defining role in shaping the cultural identity of the Mediterranean.
She stressed that recent years have witnessed unprecedented progress in bilateral relations, driven by strong political will and a shared vision for strategic partnership.

Furthermore, the Minister outlined future priorities for cultural cooperation, including the role of the Greco-Roman Museum in Alexandria as a hub for cultural exchange, the continued importance of the Greek community in Egypt, and expanding collaboration in creative industries, literary translation, and the preservation of underwater heritage.
