Disney Plus has picked up a new live-action Goosebumps series, based on the children's horror fiction books by acclaimed writer R.L. Stine.
The series, which was first announced in April 2020, has been given a ten-episode order by the streamer.
It follows five high school students who accidentally unleashed supernatural forces in their town. They team up to save their home from doom.
Nick Stoller and Rob Letterman serve as writers and executive producers of the show, with Stoller executive producing via Stoller Global Solutions.
Letterman is also set to direct the first episode.
Executive producers also included Conor Welch of Stoller Global Solutions, Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, as well as Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman of Scholastic Entertainment.
Sony Pictures Television Studios will also produce. Original Film and Stoller Global Solutions are currently under TV overall deals with Sony.
The Disney Plus series is now the second live-action “Goosebumps” series to be developed. The first version was an anthology series aired from 1996 to 1998, with each episode being inspired by a different book.
There have also been two movie adaptations of the book series, with 2015’s "Goosebumps" and 2018’s "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween". Collectively, the movies grossed over $250 million.
“Goosebumps”, published by Scholastic Publishing, is one of the best-selling book series of all time.
The series released its first novel, Welcome to Dead House, in July 1992. It has sold more than 400 million books worldwide in 32 languages.
