Global COVID-19 Cases Exceed 67 Mln

The total number of global Covid-19 cases crossed the 67 million mark, while the deaths have surged to more than 1.53 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University report issued Today.

The US is the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 14,750,316 and 282,236, respectively, according to the CSSE. India comes in second place in terms of cases at 9,644,222, while the country’s death toll soared to 140,182.

Also, Brazil currently accounts for the second highest number of fatalities at 176,941.

On other hand, South Korean President Moon Jae-in urged citizens to cancel holiday plans and stay home as daily cases continued to top 600 and health authorities imposed stricter social-distancing measures.

Moreover, Russia recorded the highest daily cases of Covid-19 with 28,782. Also, the country reported 508 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall official toll to 42,684, according to data from the country’s coronavirus response center. Starting from yesterday, vaccination centers across Moscow started to distribute Russia’s Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine, which is developed by Russian scientists, but still hasn’t completed Phase 3 of human trials.

Also, the producers are expected to only make two million doses of the vaccine by the end of the year.
