A series adaptation of Stieg Larsson's smash hit novel “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is in the works at Sky.

Steve Lightfoot (“Spider-Noir,” “Behind Her Eyes,” “Hannibal”) and Angela LaManna (“The Haunting Of Bly Manor,” “Behind Her Eyes”) will write and executive produce the eight-episode Sky Original with Left Bank Pictures producing.

Andy Harries, Charlotte Moore and John Phillips of Left Bank Pictures will also executive produce along with Sam Hoyle for Sky, Amy Pascal, and Scott Rudin.

Principal photography is slated to commence in Lithuania this spring.

The adaptation will then be available on Sky in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

Sony Pictures Television, where Left Bank Pictures is based, will handle international distribution, with pre-sale efforts now underway in the US.

In the novel, disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander investigate the mysterious disappearance of a girl from a wealthy family 40 years earlier.

Per the official description of the show, it will bring the story “into the present, grounded in the characters and investigative DNA of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium novels, with themes that carry heightened relevance today.”

It was previously reported that Amazon was developing a series of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” though that project never left the development stage.

Salander and Mikael Blomkvist are the primary characters of the Millennium book series, of which Larsson completed three before he died in 2004 — “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played With Fire,” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest.”

David Lagercrantz then took over writing the novels, publishing the books ” The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” “The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye,” and “The Girl Who Lived Twice.”

Karin Smirnoff most recently took over the series, publishing “The Girl in the Eagle’s Talons” in 2022 and “The Girl with Ice in Her Veins” in 2024.

The books have sold more than 100 million copies combined worldwide.

The first three books were previously adapted into a Swedish film series, with Noomi Rapace as Salander and Michael Nyqvist as Blomkvist.

An American version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” starring Rooney Mara as Salander and Daniel Craig as Blomkvist was released in 2011, while “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” starring Claire Foy and Sverrir Gudnason in the main roles came out in 2018. Both films were hailed from Sony Pictures Entertainment.
