The Milan daily newspaper Corriere della Sera reported that Giorgio Armani was supposed to spend the day celebrating with friends and family in southern France but instead, motivated by the recent success of his Armani Prive couture collection during Paris Fashion Week, he has begun work on his next womenswear collection, which will be unveiled next October in New York City.
Armani said "I couldn't live my life any other way," "I wouldn't be me if I stopped. When I was younger, I thought that at 80 I would be on permanent vacation. But the work is very exciting, intense. So energetic, I can't really leave it."
Armani's office confirmed that the fashion designer, who helped propel the Milan ready-to-wear market into a global industry, works on a regular weekly basis.
While Armani celebrates his 90th birthday, his namesake brand, Giorgio Armani, will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.
His collection also includes Emporio Armani, the official designer of the Italian Olympic team uniform and Armani Prive fashion.
